5 tips for an almost perfect summer family photo session
Summer is one of the most lovable and enjoyable seasons: longer days, plenty of sunshine and many fun adventures to hop on. What about a family photo session to make the summer even more memorable?
Follow these 5 tips for an almost perfect summer family photo session.
Do the prep work
Think ahead about when and where you would like to have your family photo session. The longer days allow you to choose from various locations, without the fear of getting dark just when you reach the desired place. Be brave and try to go for the most summery locations and activities. What about the seaside or a nice hike? Make sure you discuss the options not just with your photographer, but also with every member of your family, from the little ones to your partner in order to pick out the most suitable location for everybody's needs.
Keep in mind that summers are usually a very busy period for photographers, so it’s good to book your family photo session a few weeks in advance and to discuss with your photographer about your expectations.
Plan your outfits
Summer weather is unpredictable. You can start off with very hot temperatures, then more and more chiller as the day gets closer to sunset. Therefore, the outfits have to handle both scenarios with the same cleverness. Neutral colors work the best in hot weather as they don’t attract the sunlight as much as dark colors. Moreover, you can easily layer up using these colors.
When talking about the outfits of the little ones, make sure they feel comfortable in anything they wear for the photoshoot. Include 2-3 changing outfits so they can explore freely without being afraid of getting dirty.
Get creative
Having a family photo session in the hot summer can turn easily into a nightmare if you focus more on the result and not on the experience itself. Don’t pressure your family to act in a certain way and especially don’t force them to stay on set if they had enough of the sun. Take your time and get creative. Opt for locations and accessories that allow you and your family to have the most fun possible.
Pack all the necessities and even more
Packing is one of the most important steps for any adventure that requires leaving the comfort of your home. This is no different nor in the case of a summer family photo session. However, putting together a list of all the necessities you may need on the set can save you and your family not just time but many nerves too on the big day and make the entire experience more enjoyable.
Pack lots of water, SPF, towels, 2-3 outfits and don’t forget about the mosquito spray. Ohh, and biscuits, you know just in case of some small bribing.
Ask for inputs
When things get a bit out of control, you can always rely on your photographer to guide you. Ask for inputs and let the professional experience of your photographer lead you through solving all the challenges that may appear during the photo session.
Relax and cherish the experience as it is!
